California Governor Gavin Newsom is declaring a statewide emergency as strong winds fan wildfires in the northern and southern parts of the state. In Northern California's wine country, the Kincade Fire has consumed more than 73-thousand acres and destroyed 94 structures. The Tick Fire, burning north of Los Angeles, has destroyed at least 22 structures, but is more than 80% contained. And now there’s the Getty Fire to contend with.
The Kincade Fire in Sonoma County's wine country has spread to over 73-thousand acres with nearly 70 homes damaged. Up to 200-thousand have been forced to take shelter. The good news is containment is now at 15-percent.
The Getty Fire in Southern California is now over 600 acres in size. So far, eight structures are destroyed on the grassy hillsides in west Los Angeles – but 10-thousand homes and businesses are in danger.
As part of that, more than one-million customers are facing their power being cut today. According to officials, 1.8-million people will be in the dark today as Red Flag warnings continue.
