Mayor De Blasio Cracks Down On Lower East Side Nightlife

Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced a plan to improve living conditions for those on the Lower East Side, saying they’re often kept awake by the nightlife in the neighborhood.

“Just because you had a great party, doesn't mean the Lower East Side should be left with a hangover,” de Blasio said.

He’s announced a multi-agency plan that includes an effort to reduce traffic in the area. There will be more “No Standing Zones” to reduce traffic in the neighborhood and the Taxi and Limousine Commission will patrol looking for vehicles that are illegally parked or are making illegal pickups.

“It's going to mean quieter streets, less honking, fewer people who are partying on the street as opposed to inside,” de Blasio said.

The Department of Sanitation is also adjusting its street sweeping schedule.Cleaning will now occur a few hours later to ensure the streets are clear for the morning.
