The MTA has taken another step towards implementing congestion pricing in New York City, awarding a $507 million contract to TransCore.
The company will design, build, operate and maintain the system that will charge drivers traveling south of 60th Street in Manhattan. TransCore will work to minimize the disruption by installing the system on existing street poles in the city.
“This nation-leading program brings us one step closer to making New York a more environmentally sustainable and economically vibrant city. Quite simply, it makes New York City a better place to live, work, and visit,” MTA Chairman Pat Foye said in a statement.
The price of the tolls are expected to be announced some time in 2020.Tolling for drivers begins in 2021.
