A family outing ended in tragedy when a 10-year-old girl fell to her death from a carnival ride this past weekend.
The unidentified child and her family were attending the Deerfield Township Harvest Festival in Cumberland County when she fell from her seat on the amusement park ride called "Extreme."
New Jersey State Police responded to the emergency and had the girl air-lifted to Cooper Hospital where she was pronounced dead an hour after arriving.
The owner of Skelly's Amusements, Tom O'Conner told nbcnewyork.com, "We are devastated by this, this has never happened in our 60-year history. We are fully cooperating with inspectors from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs."
According to New Jersey law, amusement ride manufacturers are required to be certified by the Bureau of Construction Project Review before they can sell their rides for purposes of operation and ride owners are required to apply for annual permits.
