Officials from the Central Park Conservancy announced that the north end of the park will be getting a $150 million face lift that includes replacing the Lasker Rink and Pool which was built in 1966.
Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver told CBS.com, "The vision reimagines the north end and help makes Central Park more open, more accessible and more enjoyable than ever. The project will increase recreational possibilities around Harlem Meer while respecting and enhancing the natural setting."
Currently, the pool and rink facility is closed most of the year, but with the new building people will be able to use the building 10 months out of the year.
"You'll be able to move in and through the facility," said Project architect Susan Rodriguez. "So if you want to stop by for a cup of coffee or water or just a place to warm up after you've had a walk, it'll be a much more open place."
The project is set to begin in 2021 and reopen in 2024.
