Well, of course the Yankees beat the Orioles again yesterday—I mean, why would yesterday be any different.
But at least the Yanks didn’t homer on the first pitch of the first inning this time.
Nah, they let starter Baltimore Dylan Bundy starter throw about a dozen or so pitches before catcher Gary Sanchez drilled this three-run shot over the center field wall to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead as the Yanks went on for the 6-5 win—their 16th straight against Baltimore.
And now that the Yankees are done with the O’s for the year, we can give you the final totals—and they are staggering. The Yankees hit 61 homers off Orioles pitching this season and outscored them 151-83. Sanchez (10 homers) and Gleyber Torres (13 homers) are now linked to another pair of Yankee legends—Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth as the second set of Yankees to hit double-digit homers against an opponent in the same season—Gehrig and Ruth each hit 11 against the Boston Red Sox in 1927 when teams played each other 22 times apiece.
