“Stay Single”: 107-Year-Old Woman’s Advice For Long Life

Nobody likes to think about their life coming to an end, but it happens to even the best of us. But some folks seem to have cheated death, like Louise Jean Signore, who just celebrated her 107th birthday in the Bronx this week. She’s been around long enough to know more than most of us and she has some advice for a long life: stay single forever.

The centenarian has never married and she believes it’s not eating well or exercising regularly that’s kept her kicking all these years - it’s not having to deal with a partner’s baggage. “I think the secret of 107 is I never got married,” Signore explains. “I think that’s the secret.”

Aside from being free of a spouse Signore also thinks diet plays a role in her longevity. “Italian food is very good for you,” she says. “I was brought up with very good food. No soda, no cake.”

She also stays active, doesn’t use a cane or a wheelchair, and does all her own shopping. She’s legally blind, but aside from a recent bout of pneumonia, she’s fit and healthy. “I’m 107 and I just take a blood pressure pill,” Signore explains, “that’s all.” And we should all be so lucky!
