Cops are looking for two suspects for that shooting in Brownsville that killed one and injured 11.
It happened late on Saturday night as people gathered in the neighborhood for an “Old Timers Day” celebration.
“What happened (Saturday) night interrupted an event – the Old Timers event that had been held successfully and peacefully for decades– interrupted a moment that up until that time had been an example of everything good about the Brownsville community,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
A 38-year-old man was struck in the head and was killed. Six other men and five women between the ages of 21 and 55 were injured.
“This tragedy does not define Brownsville, does not define the people of Brownsville, does not define what's happening on the ground in a community that has worked so hard and come so far,” Mayor de Blasio said.
The Old Timers Event has been held for more than 50 years.
