According to a Siena College Poll, 55% of New York voters are in favor of legalizing marijuana and 40% are opposed.
The two groups that seem to be holding up the legalization of pot are older New Yorkers and Republicans. According to an article published in the New York Post, 54% of voters over 55 and older were against officials legalizing marijuana and 53 % of Republicans say nope to dope.
Democrats under 35-years-old voted to legalize weed at a 3 to 1 ratio and Democrats approve of the move at nearly 66%.
The biggest opposition for legalizing pot in New York comes from law enforcement officials and suburban Upstate counties.
Siena College Pollster Steven Greenberg said, "There continues to be support for legalizing the recreational use of marijuana. It has strong support from Democrats, Independents, Blacks, and Hispanics."
The New York State legislature has thus far been unable to get the votes to legalize marijuana.
