The 9/11 Memorial Glade is being dedicated on Thursday, paying tribute to those who have been sickened and who have died from September 11th related illnesses.
The pathway is lined by large stones that point to the sky as a symbol of resilience. Officials said it honors the ongoing sacrifice of rescue, recovery and relief workers along with survivors and members of Lower Manhattan.
In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, people who lived and worked in the area were exposed to toxic dust and debris in the air. Many have now become sick of related illnesses.
On Wednesday, a rally was held nearby calling on Congress to make the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund permanent. Money is scheduled to run out next and benefits have already been cut for some recipients.
