Ride-Sharing Drivers May Strike Wednesday

Drivers of Lyft, Uber, and other ride-sharing companies have been asked by representatives of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance to strike for two hours on May 8th to protest the lack of a living wage and to increase their percentage of the take on the fares they pick up.

Henry Rollins a Lyft driver who spoke to the New York Daily News said ride-sharing drivers are being asked to turn off their Apps from 7:00 am to 9:00am Wednesday morning.

The strike coincidentally comes just 2 months after Lyft went public, and days before Uber will offer their IPO.

Ride-sharing drivers are also worried about the latest Wall Street advice to industry leaders which recommended companies to cut back on driver income, stop incentives, and speed up the changeover to driverless cars.

Lyft driver and President of NYTWA Bhairavi Des said he knows the 2-hour strike will have little effect on the morning commute but it will move the driver's agenda forward
