A stretch of 32nd Street remains closed on Thursday after a series of manhole fires in Midtown.
Six people were hurt in the explosions, including five firefighters. A building supervisor was also injured. All of the injuries are considered non-life threatening.
A building and school were evacuated because of concern about elevated levels of carbon monoxide. That forced some families to spend the night in hotels.
For a time, 32nd Street between Sixth and Madison Avenue was closed. Con Edison is still investigating the cause.
