Yankees Finally Reveal Aaron Judge's Exact Injury, And It's Not Good

Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge has “a pretty significant” left oblique strain, manager Aaron Boone said early yesterday.

Boone said he didn’t have a timeline for when the slugger would return. The current plan for Judge, according to Boone, is rest and recovery. The manager said he wasn’t sure if Judge would join the team on its long West Coast trip, which starts Monday vs. the Angels.

It started innocently enough Saturday when Judge—who had already homered in his first at bat—singled in the sixth inning of the Yanks 9-2 win over the Royals at Yankee Stadium.

But upon further review of the single, turns out the 26-year-old hurt himself while swinging the bat. He winced as he made it up the first base line slowly. He grimaced repeatedly at first base and after a short chat with head trainer Steve Donohue, then left for the dugout for good.

So when will he be back? If Judge knows when, he’s not saying it.

Judge finally spoke on the injury last night, saying twice that he doesn’t have a timeline for when he’ll return.

“There’s no need to put a clock on it because of what happened with the wrist last year,”Judge said following a 7-6, 10-inning win over the Royals.“So, no need to go down that road again.”

That road again was Judge referring to the last season when, Judge broke his right wrist on July 26thand, though the Yankees said they expected him to return in three weeks, he didn’t play again until Sept. 14.
