Officer Shot In Arm and Injured

A New York City police officer continues to recover after he was shot in Washington Heights.

Plainclothes officers were responding to reports of shots fired on West 187th Street and Wadsworth Avenue when the suspect opened fire. One of the officers was shot in the right arm and injured.

A second officer fired three shots, striking the suspect in the chest. The unidentified suspect was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

“We saw today, from the video we observed, a very, very dangerous situation unfold and our officers handle it with extraordinary professionalism and courage,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

The injured officer is going to be okay.

“He’s in great spirits,” Police Commissioner James O’Neill said.
