A driver is lucky to be alive, after a piece of wood crashed through a car window in Queens on Thursday.
The driver was traveling along Roosevelt Avenue and 65th Street in the Woodside section around 1 p.m. when the wooden beam fell from elevated subway tracks for the “7” train. The wood shattered the car window and barely missed hitting the driver.
“A track from the 7 train just crashed down upon a driving car around 65th Street in Woodside, piercing through the windshield. These photos are horrifying!” tweeted New York City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer.
The driver wasn’t injured. Van Bramer later clarified that it wasn't a piece of track, but rather a piece of wood that fell.
On Friday, a rally is being held to call for the subway system to be fixed.
“There must be an immediate investigation into how something this dangerous could happen. @MTA must answer for our crumbling subway infrastructure before a tragedy occurs,” Van Bramer tweeted.
The MTA said it’s conducting a full investigation.
