A Manhattan courtroom began hearing testimony on the alleged murder of Shele Danishefsky yesterday. The person on trial for her murder is her estranged husband Rod Covlin.
Neighbor Stephanie Goldman testified that Danishefsky had confided in her on several occasions that she was terrified of her husband and that their relationship had become "toxic and scary."
Covlin who lived across the hall from his estranged wife and children on the Upper West Side is accused of using a martial arts move to snap his wife's neck and leaving her bloody corpse in the bathtub for their children to discover.
Before her death, Danishefsky who worked as a UBS wealth manager complained that her husband was continually away from home playing in backgammon tournaments where he habitually cheated on her.
Covlin's lawyer Robert Gottlieb claims that Danishefsky's death was the result of a slip and fall accident in the shower leaving the victim with a broken neck.
According to an article in the New York Post the couples combined fortune is $5 million dollars. The trial is set to resume next week.
