Governor Phil Murphy is proposing building a new AirTrain at Newark Airport.
He said the current system transports about 33,000 riders per day, but it’s getting old and has reached its capacity limits.
“The current AirTrain was built over 20 years ago, and the system simply cannot function as it should, all-too-often leaving passengers delayed and airport personnel unable to get to work on time,” Governor Murphy said.
Murphy believes a new AirTrain would generate new economic activity by creating construction and airport jobs. It would also accommodate the increasing number of flyers using Newark Airport.
“A modern, reliable air train connecting rail service on the Northeast Corridor to airport terminals gives travelers efficient travel options that reduce the need for single vehicle travel to and from one of the busiest airports in the country," Murphy said.
