Three NYPD officers are being investigated after they arrested and booked a transgender person and then placed pink handcuffs on her in an attempt to embarrass her while she was in lock-up.
The all night taunting and name calling from the officers caused Linda Dominguez to file a lawsuit against the NYPD. Dominguez is suing the police department because she was arrested on a charge of ‘false personation' which is barred in the NYPD Patrol Guide.
Officer Megan Francis, the only officer that was named in court documents is allegedly responsible for placing the pink cuffs on the victim.
Dominguez and her lawyers released a statement to the New York Post that read, "Ms. Dominguez was humiliated by the harassment and discrimination she experienced during her arrest and detention, and continues to feel embarrassed and fearful of the police."
Lawyers from the New York Civil Liberties Union who represent Dominguez claim that the NYPD issued a report in 2017 that training related to transgender people is "inadequate."
