The Change.org petition was the first thing launched to cancel MTV’s new reality show, “Made In Staten Island.” City officials and residents alike have lent their signatures… and that apparently includes none other than the mayor of New York City himself, Bill de Blasio.
As you might recall, he's even taken to Twitter to slam the network, writing, “anyone who has spent any time on Staten Island knows MTV is peddling stereotypes in a shameless ratings grab.” And now, he’s doubled down on his stance in a new interview by calling for the “ridiculous” stereotypes to “stop,” calling for people to “stop treating Staten Island this way.”
He now has support from City Councilman Joseph C. Borelli, too, who has also blasted the show’s depiction of the borough. “They are stereotyping Italian-Americans on Staten Island as having a connection to criminal enterprises,” he says. “If you named any other race, religion or creed, people would be upset about that.”
