A supermarket with German roots called Lidl opened its doors at the Staten Island Mall in New Springville this week. It is 36,000 square feet and is part of the 242,000 square foot renovation that has brought new retailers and restaurants to the Mall.
"The first 100 people got to reach into Santa's bag for a gift card. Two lucky people in line got $500 gift cards," Chandler Ebeier, Lidl spokeswoman.
She also said that it is the companies first time they have ever put a store in a mall.
"It has been a very exciting year for Staten Island Mall and we are proud to end 2018 with the grand opening of our first grocery store," said James Easley, senior general manager of the Staten Island Mall.
"The opening of Lidl is truly a milestone for the Staten Island Mall and we welcome them not only to our shopping center community but to New York. We know our guests will embrace this exceptional grocery concept," he added.
