Crime continues to fall in New York City, with another decrease for the month of November.
Major crime was down 5 percent for the month compared with the same period of 2017. That includes a 25 percent drop in the number of murders.
"I've said that neighborhood policing has been crucial. It's being proven more and more all the time. We know we're the safest big city in America. I want us to be the fairest big city in America,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
Shootings increased by eight to 56 last month, but it’s still the second lowest November on record. The number of rapes increased by 13 percent, while robberies fell by nearly 12 percent.
Overall, crime is down 70 percent compared to the same time in 1995.
