It’s going to be a tougher commute for NJ Transit riders.
The railroad has temporarily discontinued 18 trains and made other service changes as it works to install Positive Train Control. Passengers on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, Morris & Essex Lines, Montclair-Boonton and Main and Bergen County Lines will all be impacted.
“Our customers will always be our first priority, and their experience must be safe and consistent. We thoughtfully reviewed all trains that are part of this adjustment and found the most reasonable alternatives,” Executive Director Kevin Corbett said in a statement when the plan was first announced.
NJ Transit warns that there is the potential for delays, cancellations and crowding.
NJ Transit is reducing fares by 10 percent for riders to ease the pain.
“As a daily rail commuter myself, I fully understand the impact this has on people’s lives,’’ Corbett said. “That’s why I thought it was so important to offer the 10% discount to our loyal rail customers."
