Mayor Bill de Blasio has endorsed Governor Andrew Cuomo for re-election, five days after the Democratic primary.
De Blasio stayed out of the primary, where Cuomo faced a challenge from Cynthia Nixon. Many speculated that the mayor actually preferred Nixon and de Blasio has often gone head-to-head with the governor.
“This may surprise you, from time to time we have disagreed,” de Blasio joked.
On Tuesday, De Blasio and Cuomo came together for a rally in Manhattan.
“When you’ve known someone 25 years, you can have some real differences,” de Blasio said. “But you can also understand there’s a greater good.”
Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo have battled repeatedly over things like the MTA’s subway problems and NYCHA. But on Tuesday, the governor called de Blasio a “great mayor.”
“Do we have differences as a Democratic party? Of course we do. Of course we do. Otherwise we would be them,” Cuomo said.
Governor Cuomo easily won his primary against Nixon. He’s facing Republican Marc Molinaro in the November election.
“Are we going to win? You’re darn right we are,” Cuomo said to a cheering crowd.
