Governor Andrew Cuomo is facing a Democratic primary challenge on Thursday from Cynthia Nixon.
Cuomo is a two term governor who has the backing of high profile supporters, such as former Vice President Joe Biden. Nixon is new to politics after a successful career in Hollywood that included a starring role in the "Sex and the City" television show and movies. A recent poll by Siena College showed Cuomo with a 63 to 22 percent lead among likely primary voters.
"The polls have been wrong for a few years now, but never more so than this year," Nixon told WOR's "Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning."
Nixon said there's a movement in the country with voters to elect better Democrats.
"There's so much more that we could be doing here in New York in our proudly progressive two-to-one Democratic state," Nixon said.
The winner of Thursday's primary will face Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, who is running unopposed in the Republican primary.
Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul is facing off against New York City Councilman Jumaane Williams. Hochul is running with Cuomo and Williams is campaigning with Nixon, but primary voters will decide the governor and lieutenant governor positions separately.
There's a four way race to be New York's next Attorney General, after Eric Schneiderman resigned in May because of abuse allegations. New York City Public Advocate Letitia James, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, Fordham Law Professor Zephyr Teachout and Leecia Eve from the Port Authority Board of Commissioners are all competing for the office.
The entire Albany legislature is also up for grabs. That includes 150 seats in the Assembly and 63 State Senate seats.
Polls are open until 9 p.m. on Thursday night.
