Just days before the Democratic primary in New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo is dealing with a pair of controversies.
A New York State Democratic Party mailer went out accusing Cynthia Nixon of being silent on the rise of anti-Semitism. Cuomo said he had nothing to do with it.
“I think the mailer was a mistake. I think it was inappropriate. I understand that the state party has offered the Nixon campaign to do a mailer for them,” Cuomo said.
Nixon said it’s “absurd” for Cuomo to claim that he didn’t know anything about it. She wants him to apologize.
“To accuse me of this is incredible to say the least, but is frankly shameful,” Nixon said.
At the same time, the opening of the Mario Cuomo Bridge had to be postponed because of safety concerns. It was originally scheduled to open on Saturday, but there were concerns that the dismantling of the old Tappan Zee Bridge wasn’t stable and could fall onto the Cuomo Bride.
Nixon accused the governor of being reckless with public safety.
“It shouldn’t be too much to ask of the governor that he put people’s lives ahead of a photo-op, because that’s what happened here and we’re just really lucky that there wasn’t a more serious result,” Nixon said.
The bridge is now expected to open Tuesday night.
The Democratic primary is on Thursday.
