Mourners are paying tribute to legendary playwright Neil Simon, who died over the weekend at the age of 91.
Fans left flowers outside the Neil Simon Theatre on West 52nd Street. The theatre opened in 1927 and was renamed for Simon in 1983.
“Thank you, Mr. Simon, for all the laughter! Our dreams keep ups Broadway Bound because of you!” a sign left outside the theatre read.
Simon is considered one of the greatest playwrights of all time. His career spanned more than 50 years and included hits such as “The Odd Couple” and “Barefoot in the Park.”
"He just was a naturally funny man and he was totally charming and I found him very sexy," said Marsha Mason, who was married to Simon for 10 years.
Mason was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress four times. She said they got married after knowing each other for just three weeks.
"He was very, very witty and a lot of fun, as well as a very serious person and a very considerate person," Mason said.
