House Party Ends in Gunfight Involving Off-Duty Cop

An off-duty police officer and a man confined to a wheelchair pulled their pistols and exchanged gunfire during a weekend house party in Brooklyn.

Kwame Dotton and the unidentified police officer got into a shouting match outside of an East Flatbush home located on East 43rd Street.

Witnesses say the screaming match escalated into a duel when Dotton allegedly pulled a .038 caliber pistol from his lap and fired an errant shot toward the police officer. The cop returned fire and hit Dotton in the hip with one of the four rounds he fired.

Dotton was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment.

He was treated for his gunshot wound at Brookdale Hospital.

According to police records Kwame Dotton has been confined to a wheelchair as a result of being shot years ago in another altercation.

The New York Post reports that the NYPD force investigation unit is evaluating the situation like they do with all officer-involved shootings.
