A state of emergency remains in effect in Bergen, Essex, Monmouth, Ocean and Passaic counties in New Jersey after severe flooding.
Upwards of eight inches of rain fell in some parts of the state during weekend storms. That caused localized flooding and forced some people to evacuate their homes.
“There is no doubt that parts of our state have received nothing less than historic amounts of rain, and some communities received an entire month’s worth in just a few hours,” Governor Phil Murphy said.
Murphy has encouraged homeowners to document all their property damage.
