A state of emergency is in effect in Little Falls, New Jersey after torrential rain pounded the town.
The storm has damaged more than 100 homes and left at least 32 uninhabitable.
“You look at the lives who have been disrupted, in some cases as it relates to their homes permanently, it’s heartbreaking,” Governor Phil Murphy said.
Murphy visited Little Falls on Monday, touring areas damaged by the flooding. He promised to do all he could to secure state and federal resources to help people impacted by the rain.
“We’re going to work together to try to find every available resource we can; local, county, state, federal. We won’t leave any stone unturned,” Murphy said.
The devastating storm impacted other areas of the state as well. A state of emergency was also declared in Brick, about eight inches of rain fell on Monday. That caused flooding that led to more than 100 evacuations.
“Chief Riccio is coordinating with the Office of Emergency Management as well as the Red Cross to assist people displaced from their homes,” the Brick Township Police Department said in a statement on its Facebook page.
More rain is expected on Tuesday which could worsen the flooding problems and complicate the recovery.
