- Mets sent Noah Syndergaard to the hill on the night Matt Harvey’s Reds came to town. Harvey won’t pitch in this series but he met the media before the game
- Mets took the lead in the bottom of the first with three RBI singles from birthday boy Wilmer Flores, Todd Frazier and Austin Jackson and they led 3-1 after the first frame.
- Kevin Plewecki knocked in a run with a solo HR in the bottom of the 4th and the Mets led 4-0
- Wilmer Flores added an RBI single to make it 5-0 and that was the end of the day for Reds Starter Homer Bailey who wouldn’t make it out of the 4th
- Jeff McNeil continues his hat streak with a solo HR in the bottom of the 6th to make it 6-0 Mets.
- Reds got on the board finally in the 7th as Syndergaard approached 100 pitches, Jose Peraza stroked a bases loaded single and Cincy had their first run.
- Bobby Wahl came on with the bases loaded to relieve Noah, and he walked Joey Votto with the bases loaded and another run came in, 6-2 and still just one out.
- Robert Gsellman came on with two outs and gave up a two RBI single to Eugenio Suarez and suddenly it was 6-4 Mets in the top of the 7th.
- That closed the book on Noah, who left the game having given up just one run, but the pen allowed the other 4 to score and get credited to Syndergaard. The line, 6 1/3rd innings pitched, 4 runs and 6 k’s.
- That would be all the scoring either team would muster and the Mets had a win in the opener of the series, 6-4 over the Reds.
- Mets continue their 3-game series on Tuesday night at 7:10 PM with Mets on Deck at 6:05.
