- Steven Matz took the hill and gave up a two run HR in the bottom of the inning by David Freese to tie the game at 2
- Asdrubal Cabrera doubled in a run in the top of the second, 3-2 NY
- Top 3, Mets got another run on a sac fly by Devin Mesoraco and it was 4-2 Mets.
- Matz got burned by the long ball again as he gave up a game tying HR to Josh Harrison in the bottom of the third and we were again knotted, this time at 4.
- Mets got it right back in the top of the 4th with a two run HR from Asdrubal Cabrera and added another one on a strange error to make it 7-4

- Matz was better than the 4 runs indicated. He finished a strong 6 innings with just the 4 runs on three hits while striking out a season high 9 runs.
- The Pirates responded with a run in the bottom of the 7th inning to cut the game to 10-5 with a Jordan Luplow RBI Triple
- Mets got a couple of runs with sac flys in the 8th and 9th for their 11th and 12th runs of the night.
- Pirates got one more run in the bottom of the 9th on an Adam Frazier RBI double, and that would be the final score 12-6 Mets
