Newly released video shows an attempted mob hit in the Bronx.
A gunman opens fire through an open window of a car on Tierney Place around 6:30 on Wednesday morning. The target of the shooting, 41-year-old Salvatore Zottola, begins rolling on the ground to escape the gunfire.
NBC 4 New York reports Zottola is the son of a reputed Bonanno family associate.
The gunman gets out of the passenger’s side of the car and runs around a minivan where Zottola had taken cover. Zottola rolls backwards as the gunman fires more shots at close range.
Zottola was struck in the torso and the hand and also suffered graze wounds to his head. He was taken to the hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
The gunman then runs back to the car and flees the scene. The gunman and the driver of the car remain on the loose. Police are encouraging anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers.
NBC 4 New York reports that back in June, Zottola’s father was arrested for allegedly shooting a man who had pulled a gun on him.
The motivation for the shooting isn’t clear.
