Governor Cuomo Not Worried After Rep. Crowley Loss

Governor Andrew Cuomo says he’s not concerned that he could be upset in a Democratic primary like Congressman Joe Crowley.

Crowley lost on Tuesday to political newcomer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old who worked on the presidential campaign of Bernie Sanders.

Cuomo called it “apples and oranges.”

“This was a minority community, largely in this district that is afraid, that is angry, that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez did a very good job connecting with,” Cuomo said.

The governor is facing a primary challenge from Cynthia Nixon.  Polls show Cuomo ahead in the race.

The loss for Crowley was a shocker and is considered one of the biggest upsets in New York politics in recent memory.  He is a ten term congressman serving Queens and the Bronx.

"I'm just proud of anybody that's running to the left of somebody life Crowley, who is very right wing for a Democrat and pretty much controls the old school Queens machine," one man told WOR's Alice Stockton-Rossini.

During an election night speech on Tuesday, Crowley offered his support to Ocasio-Cortez.
