Authorities from the Nassau County Medical Examiner's office are trying to determine if a body found Sunday afternoon off Lincoln Boulevard is that of a child who went missing last week while swimming with his older brother.
The body, found by the Nassau County Marine Patrol in the waters off Ocean Beach Park near Edwards Boulevard in Long Beach, Long Island, is thought to be that of 10-year-old Ramel McCrae according to the New York Post.
The boy and his 11-year-old brother were swimming unsupervised last week Tuesday when they became separated. There were no lifeguards on duty at the time of the incident.
The NYPD's Aviation Unit, Dive Unit, and the United States Coast Guard searched for 22 hours covering over 300 nautical miles looking for the Hempstead boy. The 11-year-old brother of the victim made it back to shore and was not injured.
In a related story, authorities are out looking for another missing swimmer in the Long Beach area. The unidentified 30-year-old man went missing this morning at approximately 2:00 a.m. when he and two friends went for an early morning dip.
Reports filed by the Long Beach Police Department and the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department say the missing man is approximately 170 pounds and was last seen wearing a beige swimsuit.
