- Just 45 minutes before the game the Mets signed former Blue Jays and Braves outfielder Jose Bautista to a contract. He landed in NY and made it to the ballpark in time to be inserted into the starting lineup
- Zack Wheeler got the start but had some issues in the second, not all his fault. Miguel Rojas smacked an RBI single with no one out.
- Jose Reyes picked up a bunt attempt by Caleb Smith, but he got confused, made a late throw to first, and the runner was safe, and he was charged with an error which would come back to haunt the inning.
- Wheeler almost got out of the inning with just that one run, but after a pop out, a quick comebacker by JT Realmuto scooted out of his reach and into the outfield to plate two more runs, both unearned, and it was 3-0 Marlins.
- Jose Bautista made his debut in the top of the second and smacked a leadoff double and eventually scored the Mets only run.
- Neither team could put any runs on the board through the 6th as Wheeler pitched well & Robert Gsellman pitched a clean 7th.
- Wheeler finished the day with 9 Strikeouts an only the one earned run.
- AJ Ramos came on in the 8th and got into trouble. Derek Dietrich hit a two-run home run, and the Marlins had a 5-1 lead.
- Mets had a golden opportunity in the bottom of the 8th. Two on with one out and Asdrubal Cabrera at the plate but he hit into a double play and the threat was gone.
- Mets couldn’t get anything going in the 9th, and the four-game winning streak was over.
