Steven Matz pitched his best game of the year, going 6 innings and giving up just one solo home run in the top of the first inning. He worked out of a few jams, but looked like the pitcher that they hoped he could be and would be this season, giving up just 3 hits and 5 strikeouts. Rockies pitching was just as good as they held the Mets scoreless through 8. Chad Bettis gave up 6 hits but no runs in the effort, as the Mets couldn't get runs across in the 6th and 8th innings when they stranded the potential tying and go ahead runs. The Mets pen kept it a one run game into the 9th. Two outs into the ninth and Gsellman worked into trouble. A hit batter, a seeing eye single and a wild pitch led to an intentional walk to load the bases. Pinch hitter David Dahl came on and blooped a single to extend the lead 2-0, as Cespedes made a great defensive play to prevent another run and end the inning. Unfortuntaely, the Mets went quietly in the 9th and the Mets lost their fifth straight, all at home.
