- Zack Wheeler got the start for the Mets
- Tommy Pham gave the Cards the lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run.
- Jay Bruce got one back in the top of the second with an RBI Triple and the Mets trailed 2-1 after two.
- Kolten Wong doubled in a run in the bottom of the fourth, and Luke Weaver, the pitcher, singled in another run, the first time a pitcher had reached base against the Mets all year, and after 4 the Mets trailed 4-1.
- Wheeler was lifted for a pinch hitter in the 4th and the Mets got going. Yoenis Cespedes crushed a monster three-run home run and the game was tied 4-4.
- Wheeler’s night was over. Four runs on six hits in 4 innings of work. Not the night he or the Mets were looking for.
- Bottom of the fifth – Matt Harvey Time. His first appearance from the bullpen. He got a fly ball out, and struck out Yadier Molina, but gave up back to back doubles, the second by Paul DeJong gave the Cards the lead back 5-4.
- Harvey worked a scoreless 6th inning.
- Sewald followed with a scoreless 7th.
- Adrian Gonzalez plated a run on a sac fly in the 8th and the game was tied again.
- Tie game, Bottom 9, Cardinals get their first two on against Robert Gsellman via a walk and a bloop single. But he bounced back, got a strikeout and a double play and we were off to extra innings.
- Jay Bruce hit a solo Home Run in the top of the 10th and the Mets were ahead for the first time tonight
- Jeurys Familia wasn’t going to let this one go, he worked a 1-2-3 10th inning for his 9th save and the Mets took the opener 6-5 in St. Louis.
