A North Bergen, New Jersey teacher's assistant is in trouble with the law. Now before you rush to conclusions and accuse this troubled young man of having sex with a student, you are way off base. This teacher was caught selling oxycodone pills to elementary school kids.
33-year-old educator Gary Dimick admitted to selling over 25,000 pills while working at school number 1 over the past 7 years. Oxycodone is a highly addictive narcotic opioid that has been at the heart of the national opioid epidemic for years.
According to Mr. Dimick's statement he sold thousands of the 30 mg pills for between 20 and 30 dollars per pill.
Geoffrey S. Berman, the US attorney for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan said, "Dimick faces serious prison time for his actions". The maximum sentence for possession with intent to distribute carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
The special agent in charge of the drug investigation, Angel Melendez from the Homeland Security and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement team released a statement saying; Mr. Dimick preyed on the vulnerabilities of others and to make matters worse he sold the drugs while working on school grounds. He will now have to face the consequences of his actions.
Mr. Dimick pleaded guilty yesterday in a Manhattan courtroom.
