A storm system moving up the East Coast is expected to dump between 2 and 4 inches of rain on New York City and the surrounding areas.
Forecasters are warning of floods due to the high volume of rain expected in such a short period of time Thursday through Friday evening.
The worst of the storm will hit the city sometime Friday afternoon, bringing heavy rainfall and wind gusts from 50 - 60 miles per hour in the city.
Long Island could see wind gusts upwards of 60 miles per hour. The strongest winds will occur late Friday afternoon through Friday evening.
Widespread power outages are expected due to wind.
A flood watch is in effect for New York City from 6 a.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday.
Coastal flood warning in effect from 6 a.m. - 9 a.m. Friday morning for the South Shore of Long Island.
There is also a potential for flooding on the North Shore of Long Island Friday evening.
A coastal flood watch is in effect from the Jersey Shore Friday - Sunday morning.
There is a High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory in effect for all of New Jersey south of Route 78, including Newark Friday at 11 a.m. through Saturday at 6 a.m.
Sussex County, New Jersey, is under a winter storm warning Friday through Saturday at 4 a.m. Between 5 and 10 inches of snow is expected up north.
Other areas where it will be cold enough for snow to fall are expected to get 1 to 3 inches.
