Elderly Patient, Visitor Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Westchester

Two people in their 70s are dead after a shooting Wednesday morning at a hospital in Westchester.

The incident at Westchester Medical Center is being called an apparent murder-suicide after reported shots on the facility's fourth floor.

Authorities say the incident involved an elderly patient and a male visitor, but the relationship between the two people was not yet clear, reports ABC 7 New York.

Police responded to the hospital shortly after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday. The incident was contained to a single room, where authorities found both victims. The female victim was in bed when she was shot.

The man reportedly used a licensed revolver in the shooting. While the hospital has security, there are no metal detectors.

The 652-bed hospital treats more than 120,000 patients each year and has six primary centers.

More than a year ago, a disgruntled doctor opened fire at a Bronx hospital killing a doctor and wounding several others before taking his own life.
