NY Utilities Prepare for Winter Storm Weekend

New York-based power utilities are preparing for a potentially severe winter storm set to arrive in the northeast this weekend.

The most recent forecasts call for the majority of the snow accumulation coming overnight Saturday into Sunday with rain and sleet mixed with snow that could bring down tree limbs or power lines.

The weather will also make travel hazardous, especially Sunday night and Monday when temperatures drop into the single digits.

NYSEG and RG&E said in a press release that they are monitoring the storm in their respective eastern service areas.

The utilities say their company crews will be working overtime this weekend. They also have secured contractors and "additional resources to respond to downed power lines and potential power interruptions."

The utilities also encourage customers to sign up for Outage Alerts. NYSEG customers can do that here
