What's This "Bomb Cyclone" Winter Storm We're Getting?

Meteorologists say a "bomb cyclone" is forming along the East Coast, promising heavy snow and high winds overnight.

So we got the thinking: "what is this winter weather phenomenon?"  Turns out a bomb cyclone is like a winter hurricanes paired with artic freezing temperatures.

A winter storm warning is in effect for parts of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut with snow and dangerously cold weather is expected to hit the New York area Thursday. 

New York City and western Long Island will average 4 - 8 inches of snow over the duration of the storm, according to WOR's Weather Channel Meteorologist Mark Thibodeau
