Mets 9th Inning Rally Falls Short; Braves Win 9-7

posted by Joseph Curci -

The Mets were defeated tonight by the Atlanta Braves 9-7 at SunTrust Park. R.A. Dickey was sharp tonight tossing six innings allowing just three runs on four hits. His counterpart, Matt Harvey, struggled for the second straight start. Harvey allowed six runs on eight hits over just five and a third innings. The Mets bullpen also struggled allowing three more runs which turned out to be crucial late in this game.

For the Mets Jay Bruce hit a 2-run homer in the top of the first and then a grand slam in the top of the ninth which brought the Mets within 9-7. The ultimately fell short when the next batter, Neil Walker, struck out to end the ballgame.

The Mets will turn to Jacob deGrom on Wednesday in the third game of this three game series. Coverge on WOR begins at 6:05 pm with Pete McCarthy & 'Mets on Deck'.
