Mets Finish Sweep of Phillies as Zack Wheeler Gets 1st Win in 2 Years

posted by Joseph Curci -

Zack Wheeler is back on the winning side of the ledger as the Mets defeated the Phillies 5-4 completing a 3-game sweep in the first road series of the season.

For Wheeler, it was his first win in over two years as he tossed five and two-thirds of four-hit ball. He was charged with three earned runs after leaving the game with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth when Hansel Robles replaced him and immediately surrendered a grand slam to Maikel Franco.

Thankfully for the Mets they built a bug enough lead and were able to hold on. Yoenis Cespedes drove in a run in the first on a RBI double, Michael Conforto hit a solo shot in the top of the third and later scored on a sac fly, and Asdrubal Cabrera hit a 2-run single in the fifth.

Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless eighth and Addison Reed picked up his third save of the season. The Mets now head to Maimi where they will begin a four-game series with Marlins beginning Thursday night. 'Mets on Deck' kicks off our coverage starting at 6:05 pm on 710 WOR.
