Election Day is one month away, and it appears that Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, depending on your point of view, is either putting up the good fight or breathing down Governor Kathy Hochul’s neck. GOP optimists are going with the latter scenario, although there are more polls that indicate they may be right. According to former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, the money and the message might finally be coming together to put a Republican behind the Governor’s desk in Albany. Astorino, who can be heard Saturdays at 4pm on WOR, joined 710 WOR’s Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning program to explain why he strongly believes Blakeman will be heading up the New York Thruway come January 1st.
Astorino feels Blakeman has a shot in part because, for once, money is finally not a pressing problem for the New York GOP: “He’s lapped this state I don’t know how many times. We had a very successful fundraiser in Syracuse the other night; he pulled in a lot of money. Money is not really the issue, which is really good, and that has always been the case, for me or for any Republican. Money’s been tough because nobody’s believed. They don’t invest in New York. He’s had money and he’s got some SuperPAC money, so he can compete. Republicans with money can compete in this state, and that’s why I think he’s in a position to win.”
Astorino also offered up this advice on how Blakeman should compose himself heading into the lone debate between him and Hochul, scheduled for October 13th: “He just has to bite his tongue, you know. She’s going to be lying the entire time, and he’s got to just make sure he remembers he’ll never get the benefit of the doubt in a debate with a woman- and she will play that card a million times because I think she feels she’s on the run here, like she’s looking in the mirror and he’s a little too close, and then she’s going to start getting desperate and play every stupid card the Democrats play, and it’s going to be Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump.”
