Who Does The Public Believe Is As Fault For The Minneapolis ICE Shooting?

The investigation into what exactly happened in Minneapolis on Wednesday has barely even begun, yet that hasn’t stopped the public from deciding that they know what happened. A 37-year-old woman named Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent after she may have struck him with her car. That shooting occurred after Good had been part of a group of protestors who were filming and possibly harassing ICE agents while they were at work in the Twin Cities. WOR’s Natalie Migliore went to Columbus Circle in today’s edition of “Beat on the Street;” she asked pedestrians for 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program who they thought was at fault for the shooting death in Minneapolis.

Migliore found one woman who faulted the ICE agent entirely for shooting to kill, saying, “There’s no justification for that- you didn’t need to take it. You could have got- shoot at the tires, not at her! It’s just crazy… The video is clear. If you look at the other officers, they were in shock that he took out his gun. You could see by the body language, how they reacted. There was no justification. His life was not in threat. He could have stepped away from the vehicle. He went to pull the door, and she was just pulling away.”

At the other end of the spectrum, one man clearly sided with the ICE agent, tersely saying, “She tried to kill an ICE officer, so she got what she deserved.”

Overall, however, most people were willing to wait for more information to come to light. One man, for instance, told Migliore, “I don’t know. Details are still shady, but I think it’s still too early to tell, you know. The truth will come out, like, days after”, while a woman matter-of-factly said, “There were enough people there, and my understanding is there were multiple people who filmed it, so I assume that we’ll have a good idea of what happened. You know, everything comes out in the wash, doesn’t it?”
