The first debate in the New York City Mayoral race will be taking place tonight as the three candidates Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa face off. Mamdani is the consensus front runner as of this moment, and some see former Governor Cuomo as his top challenger, but plenty of others are backing Curtis Sliwa and want the founder of the Guardian Angels to come out on top. J.C. Polanco, political analyst and University of Mount Saint Vincent assistant professor, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the debate and the plan of attack that Curtis Sliwa needs to gain ground in the race.
“Hone in your attacks on Assemblyman Mamdani and the Democratic Socialists of America,” Polanco told host Larry Mendte. “Focus on destroying the socialist movement that is taking place in New York City right now -- it will destroy us economically; it will destroy our quality of life.”
Polanco believes it’s important for Sliwa to get his message across: “Show the city that you’re competent, we know that you have great ideas; look at that camera, smile, don’t wear that beret tonight… and let us know why you’re ready to lead this city, the greatest city on earth.”
