With President Trump’s self-imposed deadline of July 4th rapidly approaching, the Senate finally sent the Big, Beautiful Bill back to the House for final approval. After that, the bill goes to Trump’s desk, where he will finally get to sign it. Will the House hammer out a final version of the bill that achieves most or all of what Trump promised? U.S. Representative Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY 11th) believes so. She appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to say that, even with the vote on the bill expected to fall on party lines, the House will get the bill to Trump in time for him to still enjoy the bulk of the holiday weekend.
Malliotakis explained to host Larry Mendte why the bill’s passage is important to her: “We’ll proceed to debate the bill and hopefully get a vote by the end of the day. I want to make clear to people this is a very good bill for middle class, for senior citizens, for working Americans. I read the news coverage and when they say ‘tax cuts for the rich’… I didn’t know a middle-class taxpayer who owns a home on Staten Island- a cop and a firefighter, let’s say- are considered ‘rich’. That’s who’s really benefitting from this and the provisions I fought so hard to get in there.”
Malliotakis also wanted to set the record straight that the bill is not going to rip apart Medicaid: “How many Americans work to get their medical coverage? Why should it be any different if somebody’s young and able-bodied and (doesn’t) have any dependents under the age of 14? So that is what we’re doing here… The focus of the Medicaid provisions is to root out the waste, fraud and abuse.”
