Robert Prevost was chosen as the next Pope and leader of the Catholic church following the fourth counting of ballots in the conclave and will be known as Pope Leo XIV. Prevost is also the first American-born Pope, having been born and raised in Chicago. Natalie Migliore, WOR Reporter, asked the people of New York City how they feel about an American Pope for her Beat on the Street.

“Very exciting, it’s great for America; I never thought they’d pick an American Pope,” one person told Migliore. “I think I’m in a dream, it’s surreal, it’s hard to believe,” another excited American said.

Some are hoping an American Pope will be able to work on the rising tensions in the country and around the world: “Hopefully soften it up a bit. It’s been a little rough; hopefully he’ll connect us as well…a little bit of unity wouldn’t hurt right now.”
