When Donald Trump announced and enacted tariffs on Canada his stated goal was to generate money for the United States economy and create jobs for citizens, but it may have had some adverse effects. The Canadian press is reporting that leisure trips from Canada to the United States have dropped 40% from this time last year. Natalie Migliore, WOR Street Reporter, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about what the people of NYC told her about Canadians traveling here less.
“If they don’t want to come here, I don’t blame them,” one NYC resident said. “It’s gonna hurt us, but Canada didn’t do anything, it was the United States that started it,” another citizen said to Migliore.
But not everyone in New York City is on board with the Canadians refusing to visit the states as one person told Migliore: “No reason why they shouldn’t travel to America; it’s a great country.”
